Univ. Prof. Dr. Reinhold Függer

Reinhold Függer was born in St. Pölten, studied medicine in Vienna and completed his training at the Department of Surgery in Vienna from 1980, where he habilitated in 1993 and was appointed Associate Professor in 1997. He has very broad surgical expertise in general and visceral surgery, transplantation, surgical intensive care, vascular surgery and thoracic surgery. He intensified his scientific specialisations in HBP surgery, transplantation and surgical infections during stays abroad, including in Minneapolis and Boston. In 2000, he took over as Head of Surgery at the Elisabethinen Hospital in Linz, and from 2017 he was Head of Surgery at the Ordensklinikum Linz. His scientific interest has always been particularly strong, as demonstrated by over 260 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He was involved in numerous scientific societies, including as President or Chairman of the Austrian Society of Surgery, the Surgical Infection Society Europe, the AMIC and the Austrian Society for Surgical Research. Since retiring as Head of Surgery at the Ordensklinikum Linz in 2021, he has continued to work there scientifically.
