We are talking about inguinal hernia when intestinal structures or fatty tissue pass through a gap in the abdominal wall in the area of the inguinal canal, so called “hernia gap”.
We distinguish direct (medial) hernias which are located medially to deep epigastric vessels and indirect hernias (lateral hernias) located laterally to deep epigastric vessels. Surgical hernia repair can be performed conventionally - according to Shouldice, Bassini, Lichtenstein, or minimally invasive – laparoscopic hernia repair (TAPP, TEP), robotic laparoscopic hernia repair.
